Camponotus vicinus
C. vicinus is one of the most destructive ant species in the Western United States. Carpenter ants can become pests in any urban setting with ornamental shade trees, but they are particularly common in forested foothill and mountain communities. Carpenter ants don’t consume wood like termites but excavate it to make their nests, commonly nesting in wall voids, hollow doors, and insulation.
