Dermacentor occidentalis

Typically prefer livestock and larger animals over humans. Typically found in open fields and shrubs. Adult male ticks are not known for transmitting infections or illnesses. Diseases transmitted: Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, 364D Rickettsiosis, Tularemia, Anaplasmosis, and Tick Paralysis. As of 2020, roughly 11% of female ticks were thought to transmit Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
